Now it’s official! i-SURF High Speed Broadband has arrived in the Madikwe Game Reserve!

The initiative, led by local businessman, Rudi van Rensburg, in partnership with i-SURF, means that reliable and affordable high speed internet is now available to the over thirty five lodges and resort hotels throughout the Madikwe Game Reserve. The initial installation and proof of principle was successfully completed at Tweekoppiefontein Game Farm in the heart of the area enabling up to 10Mb/s capacity for use by the game farm and its guests and staff.

“We needed to make a clear commitment to the project,” expressed Rudi. “Completing an installation right in the heart of the area allowed the local community to see the system working in practice. Word of mouth is the strongest possible advertising. We want to enable our international guests to capture the ‘magic’ of the Madikwe experience and share it with their friends and families back home.”

The benefits of the new broadband connection were plainly evident to Rika Smuts, the Financial Manager on the Game Farm, who immediately connected her laptop to access email and cloud applications normally available only at the Head Office in Johannesburg. Meantime, local residents and guests gathered to see the first video call made from Madikwe.

“We now have faster and more stable internet communication on a remote game farm  than many of our city based customers and business associates,” Rudi added, “and whilst mobile phone reception is poor or non-existent in Madikwe, you can now email, VoIP, or video call us, over the new i-SURF connection.”

The event continued with i-SURF engineers surveying signal strengths in the most remote areas of the reserve to ensure that everyone within the game reserve can benefit from a high speed i-SURF Satellite Broadband connection.

Commenting on the success of the initiative, i-SURF CEO, David Yates, said, “It was important to prove, unequivocally that i-SURF really does deliver cost effective, high speed broadband, even in such a challenging environment. Madikwe is typical of many areas in South Africa that need affordable connectivity to develop and prosper. We look forward to supporting the local community in Madikwe and to extending our network of local partners, like Rudi, throughout South Africa.”
